In 2016, Disney introduced the movie BFG – Big Friendly Giant based on the book by Roald Dahl, a story about a little girl, Sophie, and a giant (whom other giants call “Runt,” but Sophie names “BFG”) and their eventual quest to rid the world of all bad giants.

At one point, the giant reveals to Sophie that he collects dreams. He tells her that dreams make a sound that only he can hear because of his enormous ears. The conversation takes a bit of a tangent as the two then discuss other unusual things he can hear that humans cannot:
ants chittering, ladybug footsteps, the music made by stars in the sky, flowers when they’re picked.

In his first letter, John reminds us:
This is the confidence we have before Him (God): If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears whatever we ask, we know that we have what we asked of Him.
I John 5:14-15

God hears us when we pray.
When we come to Him as sinners in need of a Savior … He hears.
When we come to Him in repentance, in need of forgiveness … He hears.
When we come to Him excited, full of joy and celebration … He hears.
When we come to Him hurting and broken, needing comfort or healing … He hears.
When we come to Him for wisdom, guidance, and direction … He hears.
When we come to Him with hearts of worship and praise … He hears.
When we come to Him with requests, concerns, and needs … He hears.
When we come to Him, and we can’t even express ourselves with words … He hears.

Last Sunday, I introduced PFG (yes, I know it’s a little cheesy): Prayer + Fasting = God-Sized

I’m still not completely sure of all that God has in store, but I know this:
it begins with us, His people, praying, seeking His face, seeking His will.

At home. In private. In our marriages. As families. With our children. With friends. In our small groups. Whenever we gather together. Prioritizing the activity and discipline of prayer in our lives. I firmly believe this is step one as we seek to see God move in our midst in incredible ways in the days ahead.

Will you join me as we pray?
